What is your Dream Donation?

Changes to our Donations page on Virgin Money GivingWe’re already back in the swing of things at 7 Wonders in 7 Days. It’s almost like we’ve never been away!

Although it has been a very enjoyable Christmas period, we’re already enthusiastically chomping at the bit to find our final travel companion, but who can blame us? There should be an exciting couple of weeks ahead!

Before we start the ball rolling again however, we just want to wish you all a Happy New Year! We hope that you are all feeling revived and refreshed from your seasonal proclivities and that you are eager and ready to take on 2011. After all, if you are one of our companions it may be a very busy year indeed!

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. There’s still the small matter of finding which of our remaining 9 candidates for Brazil will be taking that fundraising trip to Rio in July! So, those of you that have got this far, here’s what we are planning:

All the way back in 2010, we asked our initial companions to dream up their perfect donation for one of our seven charities. We asked them for a poignant and meaningful gesture that would be close to their heart and inventive in mind.

Daryl (@HeathenStorm), our first companion, submitted to us a short video about Alzheimer’s after hearing stories from friends who have cared for those suffering from dementia. His dream donation was to raise £163,000. That’s a pound for every new case of the degenerative disease found in England and Wales every year.

One time companion Mike submitted a short clip about Diabetes UK. In it he described his wish to raise the complete sum of the charities yearly fundraising target. Simple but effective.

Alissa (@alissajuvan) similarly planned to entrust her dream donation to the diabetes charity, giving a pound for each member of the charity. That wasn’t enough for her, however, and she decided to include a thoughtful, additional three pounds for the three members of her family that are diabetic. Another very touching gesture.

Karen (@Karen_McNab), meanwhile, after learning that 1 in 10 teenagers have problems that require sharing, put one and ten together to make £110,000 her dream donation for Young Minds UK. We especially loved her blog about the reason why she chose Young Minds.

Now we want to ask the same question to our remaining 9 candidates: Anthony (@WarriorAntz13), Becky (@instructionsni), Victoria (@LilVik), Aidan (@aidoses), Graham (@jambon_jovi), Catherine (@AikaterinaL), Sarah (@SarahEBale), Siobhan (@mapoftheseas) and  Chris (@chris6dn).

So candidates, if you could, what would you give to our 7 fantastic causes? What would be your dream donation? Just like our other companions, make it as original, interesting and meaningful as you can. We’re on the lookout for the best suggestions and the most enthusiastic responses. But remember, it must be a donation for one of our 7 charities.

As usual, please submit your dream donations via twitter @7Wondersin7Days with the #7w7d hashtag.

If you want to find out more about each of our charities, you can do so by visiting their homepages. The Alzheimer’s Research Trust, Young Minds UK, Diabetes UK, Feed the Minds, Open Doors, Sport Relief and the Victory Outreach Manchester are all available online.

We’re hoping to benefit all these charities with our fundraising adventure this summer. If you want to donate to one of these amazing causes and make our spectacular trip a success, please visit our Virgin Money Giving page. Thank you.
