Our Facebook and Twitter Q&A with Diabetes UK: A Lunch Time Update

All day, we’ve been asking people on Twitter and Facebook about how far you can travel with diabetes and have had some fantastic replies.
Choral Singer, Jo Forrest (@Joforrest69 on Twitter) has weighed in with some incredibly frank insights on fitting long haul flights and cycle holidays around Type 1 Diabetes.
Craig Smith (@sheepheadsmith on Twitter) shared that he’s happy he did all his travelling before being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Having said that, he’s been to Asia recently and shares why this is possible: widely available drugs for treating diabetes.
Jonathan Medd (@jonathanmedd on Twitter) answered when we asked whether anyone knew any professional footballers that had diabetes.
Ex-Spurs captain Gary Mabbutt does in case you wondered.
It’s been exciting to get so many heartfelt responses. We’ll be continuing the Facebook Q&A till 5pm. Please chip in and share your experiences.
What’s all this in aid of?
We’re doing this Facebook Q&A to raise awareness about our YouTube competition for 7 lucky travel companions to join me, (Chi-chi Ekweozor) on the 7 Wonders in 7 Days round-the-world charity fundraising trip in October.
I’m trying to raise £777,000 for 7 charities including Diabetes UK by attempting a never been done before trip to see the new 7 wonders of the world in 7 days!
The new seven wonders of the world are the Taj Mahal in India, Great Wall of China, the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, Chichen Itza in Mexico, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Machu Picchu in Peru and Petra in Jordan.
We still want your views on how far you can travel with diabetes. Particularly if you have Type 2 diabetes. We’ve heard from a few people who have Type 1 diabetes but none who have Type 2.
We also want you to enter our YouTube travel companion competition and tell us how much you’d give Diabetes UK as a dream donation and why. More details here!
Finally, please make a donation to Diabetes UK and the other charities we’re supporting through the 7 Wonders in 7 Days project. Anything you give will help these amazing people continue to do amazing work.
Your thoughts welcome. We’re happy to respond here, on our Facebook page or on our Twitter page.
