On Press Releases and Generating Buzz

Lots has been happening behind the scenes on 7 Wonders in 7 Days since the last blog post.

I’ve been working with two of the PR consultants on Team 7 Wonders, Carolyn Hughes (@manchesterisace) and Katie Moffat (@katiemoffat), to put together and publish a press release ahead of the Charity Auction and Tweetup on the 25th.

I guess this project is an opportunity to try releasing a Social Media News Release and so I’ve decided to post the Press Release as a blog post, replete with links to videos and 7 Wonders in 7 Days accounts on Twitter, Facebook etc, which apparently is what Social Media News Releases are. Will do that later today.

It’ll be interesting to see what feedback comes from that.

I’m also approaching companies and individuals for donations for the charity auction and Tweetup. If you’d like to donate something for auctioning off to raise funds for the trip at the Charity Auction, get in touch.

Tickets for the Charity Auction and Tweetup are available online for just £4. They will cost £6 on the door. Get yours now before they go!

As usual, your comments, queries, thoughts and ideas are welcome. Leave them in the comments…

Phew! Back to work…

Interesting and timely post, as I have just been exploring this myself. With the launch of yesterday’s Digital Britain report, I got sent a link to a social media news release on Pressitt.com (http://pressitt.com/smnr/building-britains-digital-future-government-unveils-action-plan-for-the-digital-economy/124/) that I’m now playing with.

I wonder if it’s worth putting it on there too? And comparing with the realwire.com service?

Thanks for the heads up on PressIt’s service, Josh.

To clarify: I’m thinking of just posting the Press Release as a blog article on the 7W7D.com website. I hadn’t intended to use a social media newswire service; I just linked to the RealWire site’s definition of a Social Media News Release in the blog post above.

I’m really impressed by PressIt’s service though, blown away that it’s free. Will trial it later today.

    RealWire.com is a paid service…

    Hang on, a Web 2.0 tool that’s paid-for? Wow!
