Meet our Travel Companions
In mid-September the 7 Wonders in 7 Days team enlisted a crack-team of social media savvy would-be adventurers for its charity assault on the globe. We feel it’s only fair that these brave, soon to be globe-trotters get their time in the spotlight before they jet off to visit their wonder and help us to raise £777,000 for our 7 fantastic causes!
Our intrepid group are;
Actress, singer and writer all the way from the USA (via the north of England). Alissa will be flying the flag for Diabetes UK in Peru and you can find out more about her as she prepares for Machu Picchu here.
Daniel Cunningham: @cunninghamster
Daniel, as a worship leader, was destined to represent the 7W7D team in Brazil at the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. Our self-confessed geek and social networking fan will be using all his social media skills to raise funds for Open Doors and our other worthy causes.
Daryl offers us a heathen perspective on his blog and introduces himself as a former touring musician and events promoter beneath a devilishly handsome mass of hair and fury. As our first travel companion competition winner, with a dream donation of £163,000 in aid of the Alzheimer’s Research Trust, Daryl chose to meet Chi-chi at the Great Wall of China. Read up on his exploits and preparations here.
Mike Chirnside is a charity man and having worked with young adults to cope with mental illness he is especially proud to be representing Young Minds UK during his three-day trip to Petra. Here’s our energetic new recruit talking about how he got involved in the project. For more updates follow his blog, if it wasn’t for fleas he’d be fearless.
Proud mother of two, Karen McNab, has been a passionate advocate of Young Minds UK from the start. Through Twitter and her blog, Karen told us her dream donation would be for £110,000 because 1 in 10 teenagers have feelings of anger, stress or worry that they need to share with someone; her donation would go some way to enable the charity to continue being that someone. Pushing back the trip to 2011 has meant that Karen can join us as our representative in India at the Taj Mahal. With her enthusiasm we wouldn’t have it any other way.

[...] Meeting at the Great Wall of China, might not be an easy task, given that 1,000,000+ British Nationals visited China alone last year. Thank God there’s plenty of wall! Slightly disconcertingly, China is located in an active seismic zone, but given that parts of the wall have been standing untroubled since 5 BC the 3-day trip should present no problems for our travelers.
