It’s been a while since I last updated the 7 Wonders In 7 Days website and it’s not for want of trying!
There’s lots going on behind the scenes as I plan for September’s October 2010’s epic round the world fund raising trip. Note: the date for the trip has changed from 9/09/09 to 10/10/10. Find out why.
I was speaking to the British Red Cross office in Manchester this morning about the trip and realised it was worth blogging briefly about some of the plans afoot instead of leaving everything for a mammoth blog update, as I tend to do.
Those of you following the 7 Wonders In 7 Days Twitter account will know that I’ve been travelling a lot with work over the last week, first to London and then to Wales.
Whilst in Wales for this year’s WordCamp UK conference, I managed to get a video interview with Matt Mullenweg, co-founder of WordPress, the popular web publishing platform that powers this website and millions of others around the world including Number10.gov.uk, the Prime Minister’s website.
Here’s a snippet:

Matt suggested that I invite someone else along with me on the 7 Wonders in 7 Days trip, perhaps offering it as incentive to people showing their support.
I thought hard about his suggestion and have decided to implement it.
Practically speaking, this means that my fundraising target of £7000 is now doubled to £14000 as I intend to raise the funds for the travel for ‘both of us’ using the digtally signed sponsored T-shirt I’ve been working on.
The idea is simple. To sponsor me you:
1. Donate £10
2. Your name is printed on the T-shirt I am wearing on the trip, in the number 7s!
3. Your name and a link to your blog or website is added to a dedicated Sponsors page on the website
I will be racking names of everyone who donates and the person who encourages the most people to donate will join me on the trip!
I’m setting up the donations platform to support the t-shirt idea and aim to launch it properly on Monday. UPDATE: You can now send in donations.
What do you think? Share your thoughts and comments after this post! Thank you.
The t-shirt was designed by the incredibly gifted Hwa Young Jung (@hwayoung on Twitter)
She also designed the new identity for 7 Wonders in 7 Days, see the new logo above!

Lovely idea. Plus I have a bit of a crush on Matt Mullenweg. Just donated £10 which I should have donated to Alzheimer’s years ago after my Aunt was struck by it, so thanks for doing this and thanks for the reminder to donate! And sorry for not waiting til you had the proper platform set up – I knew if I didn’t do it now I’d forget by Monday. Early onset? Will be very pleased to have my name on your T-shirt too
Good luck!

@Global5ocialite:
Thanks so much for your £10 donation!
I’ll drop you a line when the donations platform is ready anyway, I’ll need an image of your signature for adding to the t-shirt! No, you won’t have to donate again…
Aww, hopefully you’re joking about early onset
Thanks again. Will be in touch.
