I’ve just uploaded a rough edit of an introductory video filmed at last week’s Hungry Pigeon Festival to YouTube.
It features some live music played by yours truly and a couple of surprise interviews with other performers at the event.
Would love to know what you think! Shout out in the comments.
More video from the event will be popping up on YouTube. I’ll be letting you know…
Now on to a rather interesting campaign I’ve just heard about on tech blog Mashable. It’s called Summer of Social Good and is an impressive global drive to raise lots of money through social media for a number of US charities including LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation and Oxfam America.
Mashable’s introduction describes it quite succinctly:
Summer of Social Good is the first large scale online charitable campaign to raise funds strictly online through the power of Social Media and the Internet over an extended period. The goal is to use the power of “Social Influence” via Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, blogs and other online media to raise an unprecedented amount for our fund benefiting The Humane Society, LIVESTRONG, Oxfam America and WWF.
I really like the parallels with 7 Wonders in 7 Days and have contacted the organisers suggesting ways I could support Summer of Social Good through this site.
Let’s hope I hear back from them soon. I’ll post an update when I do.
As Mashable’s first campaign via its new SocialMediaForSocialGood online hub , it has the potential to be really huge!
Already signed up are partners like Facebook, Current TV, Tree Hugger and online donation platform, Global Giving. The Mashable post, complete with ‘tweet-ready’ statements of support has already generated over 200 tweets.
It’s interesting how GlobalGiving provides a single page to handle donations to all the charities involved. I actually asked JustGiving about providing such a page for 7 Wonders in 7 Days but they said they can’t provide this facility.
Will be interesting to see how Summer of Social Good pans out.
At the moment, the campaign is very US-centric, with pretty much all the charities currently supported based in the US.
Admittedly, Oxfam and WWF also have a UK arm but the article and campaign site implies that the project is focussing on the US organisation of each.
It would be awesome to be involved with the Summer of Social Good campaign; already I can think of several ways of adding some UK-flavour to it!
